- Malala was shot at point blank range
- Bullet hit left brow - instead of penetrating skull it travelled underneath the skin, the whole length of side of head and into neck
- Shock wave shattered thinnest bone of skull and fragments were driven into the brain
- Soft tissues at base of jaw/neck damaged
- Bullet carried on through, across top of shoulder and landed above the left shoulder blade
- The surgery to remove the bullet was successful and she was moved to the intensive care unit
これによれば、銃弾は至近距離から左の額に当たったが頭蓋骨内には入らず、皮膚の下を頭蓋骨左側に沿って下に向かい、首を通って左肩甲骨で止まった。その衝撃で砕けた薄い部分の頭蓋骨破片が脳にめり込み、あご・首の軟組織が損傷。なおどう読んでも発射され摘出された銃弾は１発のみ。
これに続く部分によれば、入院先での精密検査の結果追加で判明したのは、左あごの関節 （上と下のジョイント部）損傷、左耳後部の頭蓋骨骨折、頭蓋底骨折；

意識は戻り、喉に挿入したチューブのため話すことは出来ないものの筆談可、手足を動かすことが出来、上掲記事の様に看護士の助けを借りて立つことも出来た様です。銃撃が至近距離からであったにもかかわらず多分反射的に身を縮めたせいか、銃弾が頭蓋骨内に入らなかったこと・脊髄に損傷が無かったことが不幸中の幸い。その意味だけからはガブリエル・ギフォーズさんよりも重篤さは小さいかも知れませんが、銃弾が通った左の額から左肩甲骨までの一連の損傷はやはり相当危険でしょう。脳の腫れはまだ引かないようですし。体力の回復を待って脳からの骨の破片の摘出やら損傷した骨の修復などまだ手術は続く模様。出来る限りの回復を祈るばかり。
