気候変動： スーパーストームのこと

『スーパーストーム』 とは、2007年4月15日から3週間にわたってBBC Oneで放送され （2007年7月英国内でDVD化） 、アメリカ・カナダでも2007年の夏にディスカバリーチャンネル、日本では2007年9月にNHKで放送されたドキュマンタリドラマです （ウィキペディアより引用）；

※ これは多分、毎回ドラマ放送後にBBC Twoにて放映されていた、The Science of Superstorms という科学番組 （のひとつ）

これは勿論フィクションですが、最近科学者がこの発生の危険性を指摘しているとの報道がありましたので紹介。なお英語の一般名詞としての Super storm とは、 "a subjective term for any storm which is extremely and unusually destructive. The term is often used to describe the 1993 Storm of the Century, which impacted much of eastern North America with varying degrees of destructive weather." を意味しますから、スーパーハリケーンとかモンスターハリケーン、あるいは Hypercane などと同じ様なものでしょう；

このところ世界各地で大きな自然災害が立て続けに発生しており、因果関係は必ずしも解明されてはいないものの全球規模で気候が変動しているのは事実です。スーパーストームだって起きてもおかしくは無いとは思いますが。台風、サイクロンなどでも事情は同じかも。
