ついでにコアラ雑学；

泳ぎについては、ウィキペディアの日本語版・英語版とも記載がありませんが、 Information on Koalas / Koala's Pages に "Koalas have sometimes been observed swimming, but this is not a regular occurrence." とあるだけ、要はその暮らしからして泳ぐ機会は無いが、必要なら泳げる、ということらしい。上掲ビデオ以外でも川を泳ぎ渡るコアラは撮影されています。ただ、ヒッチハイクは珍しい。上掲ビデオ撮影前にも誰かに乗せてもらったことがあるのでは？

ところで相当昔、確か多摩動物園で何かの講演を聞いた時、 コアラ の鳴き声は見かけと随分違うと云うハナシを聞いたことがあります。『ほとんど鳴くことはないが、繁殖期になるとオスがなわばりを誇示するために鳴くことがある』 （日本語版ウィキ）、"It is generally a silent, nocturnal animal, but males have a very loud advertising call that can be heard from almost a kilometre away during the breeding season. Females glean clues regarding a male's suitability as a mate from these calls, showing a preference for larger males. When under stress, koalas may issue a loud cry, which has been reported as similar to that of a human baby." （英語版ウィキ） とのこと、百聞は一見にしかず；
