パイク・リバー社炭鉱でのガス爆発事故の続報。本日２０１０年１１月２０日正午時点ではガス排出作業のため救助隊は待機している状態、閉じ込められた２９名の安否は不明の様です；

◆Pike River 社：事故の公式発表
　　"Formal media releases will be made at regular intervals throughout the day by Police and the other emergency services as required." との通知のみ。日本（の会社）だったらもう少し違った内容になるのでしょうが。

◆Mine Nightmare

　　−−−Mines Rescue West Coast — made up of miners from Pike River and neighbouring underground mines — has been taking shifts above ground ever since the disaster, waiting for the conditions to improve underground. The risk is not methane alone but the possibility of a secondary explosion.　（中略）

　　He (=Pike River Coal chief executive Peter Whittall) would not speculate on whether the men were still alive, but having worked on site as the mine manager for the past five years, he said he knew the faces of everyone — 16 Pike staff and 13 contractors, who had been working on getting the hydro coal-cutting equipment up and running. Miners are trained to walk out after a disaster, so their portable oxygen lasts only for about one hour. Air compressors are still running to pump fresh air into the tunnel, and there is some natural ventilation.　（中略）

　　He and another contractor walked out unaided. Media reports last night that three others were following them were unfounded. Both survivors are under observation at Grey Base Hospital.　（以下略）

◆Pair escape by climbing up air vent

　　"It is pretty damn high [a few hundred feet] so it would have been hard going.

　　"They could all get out the same way but it would be one man after the other – that's how tight it is."

◆Miners discharged from hospital

　　Pike River Coal miners, Russell Smith (50) and Daniel Rockhouse (24), who both received moderate injuries after an explosion at the mine yesterday, have been discharged from Grey Base Hospital. 　（以下略）
