  • Government announces let-up to Gaza siege - but only in English

    Haaretz Daily Newspaper Israel News

−−−The Prime Minister's Office issued a press release in English following the meeting, which was also sent to foreign diplomats, was substantially different than the Hebrew announcement – according to the English text, a decision was made to ease the blockade, but in the Hebrew text there was no mention of any such decision.

It is not clear whether this discrepancy was a deliberate attempt to buy time in the face of international pressure, or a clerical omission on behalf of the Prime Minister's Office. (中略)

Two official statements came out of the Prime Minister's Office in regard to the security cabinet meeting – one in Hebrew for the Israeli media and another in English for the foreign media and foreign diplomats. The English version said that "It was agreed to liberalize the system by which civilian goods enter Gaza [and] expand the inflow of materials for civilian projects that are under international supervision." The Hebrew version addressed mainly remarks made by Netanyahu, but failed to mention any decision or agreement. (中略)

"A meeting will be held soon, and we hope that a binding decision will be taken then," the prime minister's office said, explaining that the reason for the delay is "the need for continued contact with allies within the international community in order to gain support for the liberalization plan." This despite the fact that most of the international community has already voiced support for the plan, following a campaign launched by Blair, who drafted the plan with Netanyahu.

  • Hamas: Easing Gaza siege Israeli 'trick'
    Thu, 17 Jun 2010 17:54:07 GMT, PRESSTV

Hamas says Israel's decision to ease the Gaza blockade is a trick to deceive the international community, so that it can continue its siege of the impoverished sliver.

"This is a new trick aiming at enhancing the siege's image and securing its continuation instead of lifting and ending it," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told Xinhua on Thursday.

Instead of a partial ease of the blockade, the people of Gaza "need the siege to be completely lifted, all crossing points open and securing the movement of all people and goods, mainly raw materials, instead of increasing the amount of goods," he added. (以下略)

  • Assad warns of new war in Mideast

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has warned that Israel's deadly attack on a Gaza-bound flotilla has increased the chances of a new war in the Middle East.

The decision of the "pyromaniac government" of Israel to attack the flotilla ruined the prospects for peace in the region, Assad told the BBC on Thursday.

Asked if the Israeli attack on the six-ship aid convoy had increased the chance of war in the Middle East, Assad said: "Definitely, definitely."

"When you don't have peace, you have to expect war every day, and this is very dangerous," he said. (以下略)

The SSIK held a meeting chaired by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday and decided to shelve 16 military agreements with Israel, including a $757 million plane and tank modernization project and a missile project worth over $1.5 billion.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul had earlier announced that a roadmap was to be prepared on the issue of sanctions against Israel. (以下略)

アメリカが後ろに付いている限りイスラエルは孤立することも戦争をすることも恐れないでしょう。イランへの愚にもつかない 「独自の追加制裁」 などやっているヒマは無い、非常に危険な状態と思います。
